Social and Emotional Learning

Students academic needs can only be met in an environment that fosters social and emotional growth. Our teachers recognize this truth and strive to create strong attachments with students.  We believe healthy, strong adult connections help students navigate and establish long-lasting peer relationships.  Recess and lunch are supervised by academic teachers as opposed to lunch time monitors to support and guide students interactions and social development.

Within the year, our educators have trained in Marshall Rosenberg’s Non Violent Communication; Dr. Rick Hanson’s mindfulness practice and Michele Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking . The messages these teachings bring forth are woven into interactions within the Magnussen community on a daily basis.

We believe healthy, strong adult connections help students navigate and establish long-lasting peer relationships.
