We at Magnussen believe that the distinctive purpose of middle school education is to foster growth in adolescents at a time when they are most open to discover learning, their self and the world that surrounds them. We strive to ensure that our middle school students (age 10-15) get the best education available at this time in their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development—it is a time of great change; a time in which students are shaped by many influences including home, school, and community.
We are passionate about our teaching, our school culture is focused on creating a 21st century student – one that takes on responsibility and empowers themselves with a balanced education. Our middle school program prepares students for transition to the Grade 10 BC curriculum, but our future goal continues to be able to provide a grade 10-12 high school program at Magnussen.
By working closely with the UBC Faculty we can greatly enhance student’s classroom experiences, and increase their understanding of post secondary education and all its rewards. We believe that our enriched, hands-on program and dedication to providing a small, safe, nurturing environment continues to provide our students with a multifaceted and rewarding education. Our middle school program fosters healthy relationships between peers and teachers, we believe in mentorship and strive to connect our students with a wide range of successful individuals working in our community.
Success in middle school and beyond requires critical and reflective thinking, and our individualized education is tailored to provide flexibility and support for each student. We provide a culture for students to explore their passions and grow as individuals. It continues to be our great joy to watch the students discover that they can achieve great heights when they are encouraged to stretch themselves, both academically and personally.
